Merging with Pain in the Body

So often, we experience some sort of discomfort or pain in the body. Whether it be a stomachache, a headache, a twinge in your neck, or a sore lower back, all of these things can be inconvenient and just downright painful. It has almost become a conditioned reflex to reach for something that will get rid of the pain as soon as possible. Whether it be Advil, Gravol, muscle creams, muscle relaxants.... the list goes on and on. (side note: since educating myself on the power of essential oils for general health and wellbeing, I haven't taken a traditional "painkiller" or pharmaceutical in 6 MONTHS! Yay!)

Here's what I'm suggesting- instead of numbing this pain away immediately, we should merge into it first. Hear me out: our bodies are infinitely intelligent. When we experience pain, there is always a reason. Our brilliant bodies are screaming "HEY! YOU! Pay attention to me, down here!" and we get annoyed and take medication to dull it and numb it away.

Instead, what we could be doing is slowing down and dissecting the pain and figure out what our beautiful bodies are trying to tell us.

For example, the other night I had an incredibly bad migraine. It hurt for me to talk, walk, or even open my eyes. All that I wanted to do was put peppermint and marjoram oil on my temples and go to bed. What I did instead was sit on my yoga mat and after doing some deep breathing I asked my body what it needed, and what it was trying to tell me. I visualized myself merging in the pain in my body, and miraculously as soon as I had merged with my pain I wasn't consciously aware of it hurting me anymore. After I tuned in, I got the guidance that I had consumed some food that day that didn't really sit right with my body. Then, my body told me exactly what I needed to do to eradicate this pain and how to prevent it in the future.

Our bodies will always tell us what we need to do. Be gentle with yourselves.

I'll leave you with that on this snowy Saturday,

xx Love,

Emily
